About Me
Hi, my name is Drew Reynolds, and I am a recent graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Communication Arts and Sciences. In August 2023, I graduated with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Media Photography. In 2019, I explored my interest in entertainment media as an assistant to the Arts and Culture editor at the Lansing City Pulse, a popular weekly newspaper in Lansing, Michigan. I've photographed concerts, festivals and parades, and published bylined articles covering local artists, music and events. Throughout my time at MSU, I published articles via the Spartan Newsroom, an online news site for students. I documented history with articles marking the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as articles covering women in politics.
In 2021, I interned at YpsiWrites, a nonprofit writing center at Eastern Michigan University. After my internship, I began work as a Communications Specialist for the organization. I created social media campaigns, wrote newsletters, and designed numerous media projects. My favorite project to date is a nature writing prompt book that I designed for one of our volunteers. I expanded YpsiWrites' outreach within the Ypsilanti community with fundraisers, a bookmark campaign and several local writing events. I am enormously grateful for the creative freedom, support and guidance that I have received from YpsiWrites.
On the sidelines, I pursued my passion for food and hospitality through various prep and line cook positions, serving jobs, and as a Culinary Arts student at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. In 2023, I had the opportunity to work for a farm-to-table restaurant, The Dixboro Project, as well as a cook for private events, and I developed a love of pastry and charcuterie board styling. I also enjoy photographing nature and find that I often take inspiration from the outdoors and apply it in the kitchen. I have a deep interest in plant-forward cuisine and have an eye for styling colorful, vibrant and striking food.
In 2024, I began work as a Communications Intern at Brilliant Cities, a nonprofit dedicated to providing services for families living in Detroit and Pontiac. I have photographed summer camp programming and events, written copy for various projects, and have assisted with tasks within the stewardship department. Brilliant Cities' mission is to lead with love in order to promote growth, which has become a motto that I carry with me daily.
Overall, I would describe myself as a lifelong learner and someone who enjoys connecting with people and creating new experiences. My goal is to always create and do work that is meaningful.
